Favourite Etsy Items of the Week: London Calling

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

This thursday I’m leaving for London for two whole weeks! I’m going for an interview at a college and to visit family and friends. If I wasn’t so terrified of flying I would be super duper excited. For this weeks Favourite Etsy Items I though I would make it London themed. It actually turned out to be harder than I expected. I started out by hearting anything with a Union Jack on it but that was looking pretty lame. In the end I decided to make it a mod and punk themed grouping.

I’ve already started thinking about what I should bring for the trip. The weather in London is so unpredictable so I definitely need to bring some warmer clothes. For travelling, I’m thinking of wearing my leather jacket, skinny black jeans and ankle boots. I also want to bring some dresses and heels for nights out on the town. I probably won’t stick to a totally mod/punk themed wardrobe since I’m so into flowy florals but it’s a good starting point! I also need to think about what I should wear to the interview! I found this amazing late 60s three piece wool suit thrifting a few weeks back and was considering wearing that, but I think it may be too much. Maybe I’ll post photos of the different options and put it to a vote.

These are the first ever wedding dresses I have ever listed in my etsy shop. They all kinda fell into my hands at the same time. The first statuesque tiered cream coloured dress was given to me by my mom’s friend from England. Apparently, she never really had the chance to wear it herself and when she heard I had a vintage shop she sent it right over to me. Thanks Miriam! I think it would make a beautifully simple wedding dress, or, even, perhaps an elegant bridesmaid dress.

This beautiful cream coloured 1960s lace wedding dress I found while thrifting one day. It’s really rare to find nice wedding dresses at a thrift shop these days, usually, they’re all hideous 1980s polyester ball gowns covered in sequins. When I saw the flower and vine lace sandwiched in the rack I pounced on it. It’s actually in great condition, there were a few small holes in the lace but I got those mended and it’s practically as good as new!

I found this last beauty, a romantic 1950s chiffon and lace wedding dress, at a church bazaar. When I brought it to the front to pay for it, all the little old ladies working there wanted to know when the big day was. They looked disappointed when I told them I wasn’t getting married and was just buying the dress because I thought it was beautiful. And beautiful it is, this dress has little embroidered leafs all over it that turn into an intricate leaf and vines lace at the neckline, sleeves and hem. My mom got really upset when I told her I was selling it, she thought I should keep it for my possible future wedding, but since that’s not happening any time soon I thought I’d put it online for some lucky bride to be.

The weather in Montreal has been really up and down, one day it’s +12 and the next it’s -12. However, it’s supposed to get gradually warmer this week and by the weekend it’s going to +23 degrees! I can’t wait! So in preparation I’m going through my wardrobe, picking out all my favourite spring clothes and taking note of what staples I’m missing. I’m also going to go bike shopping this week, boy do I missing biking!

Floral Denim Shorts, India Dolly Dress, Checkered Romper, 1970′s Wedge Sandal

There are a few looks I’m feeling for spring. I would love to find an airy, 70s patchwork mini dress for picnics and lazy hot days. I already have quite a large collection of rompers but I could always use more. I’m also on the hunt for the perfect pair of wedge sandal and some floral denim pieces. Colour and pattern and must have for spring, as you may know from previous posts, I love folky prints; Norwegian, south western and aztec to name a few!

It’s awesome when things sell before I get a chance to blog about them!
I’ve finally had some free time and was able to photograph lots of things this weekend. I will be adding them to my vintage shop throughout the week so stay posted!

Favorite Etsy Items of the Week!

I have been so busy the last few weeks I have had absolutely no time to blog. I just got back from New York where I had an interview at NYU. I wish I could say I had a blast while I was there and did all kinds of exciting things but I was so stressed and rushed, and the weather was so awful that I really have nothing to report. I have a play opening in a week so I’m very busy getting my set ready. I’m hoping once that’s finished I’ll have more time to blog and focus on Lalouka.

Because of my crazy schedule I had no leisure to browse etsy so I missed last weeks favorite etsy items. Luckily there was wifi on the bus back from NY, so I had 8 hours to catch up on my blogs and etsy browsing. I’m really into folky style clothing at the moment; woven patterns, full skirts, jumpers, clogs, and basket bags so that’s what I focused my search on this week. I desperately need a dirndl dress, some cork wedges and an oversized woven bag for spring. I wish I wasn’t so broke!
